Why this might be the Chiefs Superbowl year

Lots of Chiefs fans are already excited by the big names being back and healthy on this team in the fall. Stars like Sammy Watkins, Eric Berry, and of course Patrick Mahommes make it easy to overlook the biggest reason why this year will be great.
Contracts

Typically players will perform their absolute best, when there is a new contract on the line.  This year indicates several players that can either start working on their new deals, or will be a free agent next offseason. Some of these guys like David Amerson, Mitch Morse, or Spencer Ware have proven their worth to the team in recent years. Others like Frank Zombo, Bryan Wittzman, or Charcandrick West, still have things to prove to the Chiefs and the rest of the NFL. Regardless of their status, the players will perform their best to get that next contract.
What does this mean? You may ask. This means that (excluding cases of injury) you could see a back up running back charging for 1,000 yards, or a pass rusher in Dee Ford that gets double digit sacks. You could see David Amerson perform like a number 1 corner, or Mitch Morse absolutely pancake every guy he takes on. The Chiefs have several of these contract year players this year in both big and small names.
A defensive shift
There is a new face to this 2018 defense, which you can read about here. I know not everyone will read the article so here is a basic summary. It seems like Bob Sutton is finally fixing what has been issues in the past. I highly suggest you read the article to get a more "indepth picture" of how this is taking place.
A team hungry for advancing
You can tell there is some frustration in the locker room dealing with the playoffs and even winning games. These guys have said it all the time, they realize the ultimate goal is the superbowl, and they are definitely ready to do more than talk about it.
A new era in Chiefs history
Say what you want, but the best way to open a new era is by getting the big title. What better an oppurtunity than when no one knows what to expect from your team?
