So it's time to get to the wide receivers...
Route Runners
These are the receivers that may not have the best hands or great speed, but they know what route they are running and can do it really precisely. These would be your Albert Wilson types, and believe it or not they can be a QB's best friend.
Possession
These are your Martavis Bryants or your Chris Conleys. These guys don't care too much about YAC (yards after carry) or routes, but you can trust them to catch whatever is thrown their way. Need a catch on a 3rd and goal? These are your guys. They make their living off of 50/50 balls.
Speed/Deep threat
These are your Devin Hesters or Desean Jacksons. These guys blow the tops off of defenses and cause troubles for defenses and weak armed QBs. These guys have speed and everyone knows it. Need a five yard gap of separation? These guys will get even more.
Number one
These guys are very well rounded in almost all areas. These are your Julio Joneses or possibly Tyreek Hills (we will wait on next season to declare that.) Need a fast seem route? They will give you those and most likely more. This doesn't mean they don't struggle in one area, but they have enough skills in the others to make up for it. These guys can make Jay Cutler look better than Aaron Rodgers at times. These guys are starting to seem rarer.
Each receiver has a role, but the most important in my opinion is the Number one. However, the combination of speed receivers and possession can prove quite effective. Check back to see our next article on Outside Linebackers. Feel free to check out other articles too.
