This game was the epitome of this season for the chiefs. A hot start, a few injuries, and a horrible second half performance. As people continually point fingers I must point out that this loss was a team loss, and probably as much of one as it gets. The first half went lights out with very little problems, and then came the second half.
First of all while the Refs had some problems ( questionable forward progress calls), if you are up with a huge lead and you blow it and lose by one point, that is on your team not playing good enough football. Yes had some of those calls been in KC's favor we would've probably won, but you shouldn't focus on what didn't happen.
My first complaint is on Smith. That's right Smith was a Huge reason for the second half let down. There were several RPOs called where either Smith checked out of the run, or only gave it to Hunt after everything had broken down. Also there were some throws that Smith never pulled the trigger on.
The second thing in that abysmal half that really stuck out was how lost the O Line looked at times. I think part of this was the loss of Kelce, and part of this was just general confusion ( I personally think on Witzman especially.).
The bend but don't break defense failed. Some of this was play calling, but some of this was also unlucky stuff and player execution.
Andy Reid/ Matt Nagy called some okay plays, but probably should not have given Smith as much Liberty as they did. They only called one screen pass (the other looking ones were check downs from Smith, evidenced by the other receivers already being 10 yards down field.) which was helpful. On the contrary I don't think that they should have given Smith that many RPOs. Kareem should have just gotten straight up run plays with no pass option. The amount that he ran is inexcusable by both the play caller and the QB.
I could go on for days in this article, but it all comes down to the team losing as a whole. No one hiring or firing is going to fix this team.
In other news I will continually update the blog with a free agent tracker weekly article, and other off season things to think about.
