Welcome to the bench

Wow! How many people expected that? Well no that I think about it it makes more and more sense. For those of you who don't yet know, Andy Reid suspended Peters, not just from this Sunday's Oakland game, but also from practice this week. This is a BOLD, but needed statement to the entire team. No one is safe, if you start acting up or playing badly(although this is either mislead by fans or the entire Chiefs defense sucks at tackling.) you might be benched. Throwing the flag was the last straw for Andy Reid, who was already starting to lose control of the locker room. This becomes more personal for Peters because it is against Oakland. Also because I don't think that he has missed a full game up until this point in his career. Hopefully this will get the players in line. Now we can say that every outside corner on the Chiefs has been benched for poor playing or actions. No one is safe and hopefully it will light a fire underneath these guys.
While we are talking about Peters, I want to point out that he is actually not playing HORRIBLE football for the way he is being used. The proof of it is in these stats. Marcus Peters has the same amount of solo tackles as Derrick Johnson. While DJ has indeed seemed to lose a step, he has had more opportunities than Peters to make a tackle. That almost seems shocking doesn't it. A BIG part of the reason why Peters isn't seeming to play up to his usual level, is on how Bob Sutton is using him. Peters is a press corner, so if you make him stay 10 yards off the line, or the receiver you are starting to take away the thing he is best at which is turnovers. He can't stop the run very easy that way, he has a harder time trying to get to the receiver to make the swat or interception. I don't know why Sutton has played him off man so much. The first game he started doing that was the Philly game, and I think that's him trying to make up for not having Berry. No one has really focused on that so much because of the other cornerback spot and the fact that qbs didn't generally throw it his way to start out the season. That's why Peters's stats have been going down, and it's up to Bob Sutton to make the fix. If he doesn't do that, that would be one more reason to move on from him this offseason.
